Tinnitus Explained - Causes And Tinnitus Treatment

tinnitus (IPA pronunciation: [tɪ'naɪtəs] or ['tɪnɪtəs], from the Latin word for "ringing" is the perception of sound in the human ear in the absence of corresponding external sound(s).

Tinnitus can be perceived in one or both ears or in the head. It is usually described as a ringing noise, but in some patients it takes the form of a high pitched whining, buzzing, hissing, humming, or whistling sound, or as ticking, clicking, roaring, "crickets" or "locusts", tunes, songs, or beeping. It has also been described as a "whooshing" sound, as of wind or waves. Around 15 per cent of people experience tinnitus at some stage and it's more likely to occur after the age of 60.

What Causes Tinnitus?

Most tinnitus comes from damage to the microscopic endings of the hearing nerve in the inner ear. The health of these nerve endings is important for acute hearing, and injury to them brings on hearing loss and often tinnitus. If you are older, advancing age is generally accompanied by a certain amount of hearing nerve impairment and tinnitus. If you are younger, exposure to loud noise is probably the leading cause of tinnitus, and often damages hearing as well.

There are many causes for "subjective tinnitus," the noise only you can hear. Some causes are not serious (a small plug of wax in the ear canal might cause temporary tinnitus). Tinnitus can also be a symptom of stiffening of the middle ear bones (otosclerosis).

Tinnitus Symptoms

With tinnitus, you quite simply hear a noise that no one around you hears. This noise is usually a buzzing or ringing type sound, but it may be a clicking or rushing sound that goes along with your heartbeat. The sound is sometimes accompanied by hearing loss and dizziness in a type of syndrome known as Meniere disease. In addition to the noises associated with tinnitus, certain other symptoms may accompany this condition. These include:

* Dizziness
* Pain in the ear
* A sense of fullness in the ears
* Headache

How is Tinnitus Diagnosed ?

Persons with tinnitus should be seen by a physician expert in ear disease, usually an otologist or a neurotologist.

Why is my tinnitus worse at night?

During the day, the distraction of activities and the sounds around you make your tinnitus less obvious. When your surroundings are quiet, your tinnitus may seem louder and more constant. Fatigue may also make your tinnitus worse.

Is tinnitus a common problem?

Yes. Almost everyone at one time or another has experienced brief periods of mild ring or other sound in the ear. Some people have more annoying and constant types of tinnitus. One third of all adults report experiencing tinnitus at some time in their lives.

What is the treatment of tinnitus?

After a careful evaluation, your doctor may find an identifiable cause and be able to treat or make recommendations to treat the tinnitus. Once you have had a thorough evaluation, an essential part of treatment is your own understanding of the tinnitus, i.e., what has caused it, and your options for treatment.

In many cases, there is no specific treatment for tinnitus. It may simply go away on its own, or it may be a permanent disability that the patient will have to "live with." Some otolaryngologists have recommended niacin to treat tinnitus. However, there is no scientific evidence to suggest that niacin helps reduce tinnitus, and it may cause problems with skin flushing.

Be a Person of Integrity

Integrity is one of the great aspect of personality which has drastic impact on mind & has a direct effect on traits. But why it is fruitful & resultant one to become a person of integrity? it is because, Person of integrity can only makes own unique & awesome identity with difference. Lets elaborate it, Integrity is a real-time genuine value, like persistence, courage and intensity. Even more than that, it is the value that guarantees all the other values. You are a good person to the degree to which you live your life consistent with the highest values that you Adopt support & promote. Integrity is the immense quality that locks in your values and causes you to live consistent with them. Integrity is the foundation of character. And character development is one of the most important activities you can engage in. Working on your character means disciplining yourself to do more and more of those things that a thoroughly honest person would do, under all circumstances & by finding positive in everything.

To be impeccably straightforward with others, you must first be impeccably honest with yourself. You must be true to yourself. You must be true to the very best that is in you, to the very best that you know. Only a person who is living consistent with his or her highest values and virtues is really living a life of integrity. And when you commit to living this kind of life, you will find yourself continually raising your own standards, continually refining your definition of integrity and honesty, BECAUSE WE ARE WHAT WE REPEDIATELY DO.

You can tell how high your level of integrity is by simply looking at the things you do in your day-to-day life. You can look at your reactions and responses to the inevitable ups and downs of life. You can observe the behaviors you typically engage in and you will then know the person you are.

The external expression of high integrity is high-quality work. A person who is totally direct, open, frank, sincere & straightforward with himself or herself will be someone who does, or strives to do, excellent work on every occasion. The totally honest person recognizes, sometimes instinctively & unconsciously, that everything he or she does is a statement about who he or she really is as a person.

When you start a little earlier, work a little harder, stay a little later and concentrate on every detail, you are practicing integrity in your work. And whether you know it or not, your true level of integrity is apparent and obvious to everyone around you.

Perhaps the most important rule you will ever learn is that your life only becomes better when you become better. All of life is lived from the inside out. At the very core eminent element of your personality lie your values about yourself and life in general. Your values determine the kind, class & type of person you really are. What you believe has defined your character and your personality. It is what you stand for, and what you won't stand for, that tells you and the world the kind of person you have become.

Ask yourself this question: What are your five most main & important values in life? After some confusion & priorities Your answer will reveal an enormous amount about you. What would you pay for, generous for, love for, sacrifice for, suffer for and even die for? What would you stand up for, or refuse to lie down for? What are the values that you hold most dear? Think these questions through carefully, thoughtfully and, when you get a chance, write down your answers.

Here's another way of asking that question. What men and women, living or dead, do you most admire? Once you pick three or four men or women, the next question is: Why do you admire them? What values, qualities, or virtues do they have that you respect and look up to? Can you articulate those qualities? What is a quality possessed by human beings in general that you most respect? This is the starting point for determining your values. The answers to these questions form the peak foundation of your character and your personality.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "Guard your integrity as a sacred thing." In study after study, the quality, class & excellence of integrity, or a person's adherence & denotation to values, ranks as the number one quality required in every field.

Integrity is so important that functioning in our society would be impossible without it. We could not make even a simple purchase without a high level of confidence that the price was decent and that the change was correct. The most successful individuals are those with reputations of high integrity among everyone they deal with. This level of integrity builds the confidence that others have in them.

Earl Nightingale once wrote, "If honesty did not exist, it would have to be invented, as it is the surest way of getting rich." There are several things you can do to move you more rapidly toward becoming the kind of person that you know you are capable of becoming. The first, as I mentioned, is to decide upon your five most important values in life. Organize them in order of priority. Then write a brief paragraph defining what each of those values means to you.

A value combined with a definition becomes an organizing principle? a statement that you can use to help you make better decisions. It is a measure and standard which enables you to know how closely you are adhering to your innermost beliefs and convictions.

The second step to developing integrity and character in yourself is to study men and women of great character. Study the lives and stories of people like Swami Vivekanand, Mother Teresa, George Washington, king Shivaji, Samrat Ashoka, Abraham Lincoln. Study the people whose strength of character enabled them to change their world. As you read, think about how they would behave if they were facing the difficulties that you face.

We know that if you feel a particular way, you will act in a manner consistent with that feeling. For example, if you feel happy, you will act happy. If you feel angry, you will act angry. If you feel courageous, you will act courageously. But we also know that you don't always start off feeling the way you want to.

Always Remember “ WE ARE WHAT WE REPEATEDLY DO.”

However, because of the Law of Reversibility, if you act as if you had a particular feeling, the action will generate the feeling consistent with it. You can, in effect, act your way into feeling. You can "fake it until you make it." You can become a superior human being by consciously acting exactly as the kind of person that you would most like to become. If you behave like an individual of integrity, courage, resolution, persistence and character, you will soon create within yourself the mental structure and habits of such a person. Your actions will become your reality. You will create a personality that is consistent with your highest aspirations.

The more you walk, talk, and behave consistent with your highest values, the more you will like yourself and the better you will feel about yourself. Your self-image will improve and your level of self-acceptance will go up. You will feel stronger, bolder, and more capable of facing any challenge.

There are three primary areas of your life where acting with integrity is crucial. These are the three areas of greatest temptation for forsaking your integrity, as well as the areas of greatest opportunity for building your integrity. When you listen to your inner voice and do what you know to be the right thing in each of these areas, you will have a sense of peace and satisfaction that will lead you on to success and high achievement.

The first area of integrity has to do with your relationships with your family and your friends, the people close to you. Being true to yourself means living in truth with each person in your life. It means refusing to say or do something that you don't believe is right. Living in truth with other people means that you refuse to stay in any situation where you are unhappy with the behavior of another person. You refuse to tolerate it. You refuse to compromise. I determined about the fact that most stress and negativity comes from attempting to live in a way that is not harmonious with your highest values. It is when your life is out of alignment? when you are doing and saying one thing on the outside, but really feeling and believing something different on the inside? that you feel most unhappy. When you decide to become an individual of character and integrity, your first action will be to neutralize or remove all difficult relationships from your life. This doesn't mean that you have to go and hit somebody over the head with a stick. It simply means that you honestly confront another person and tell them that you are not happy. Tell them that you would like to reorganize this relationship so that you feel more content and satisfied. If the other person is not willing to make adjustments so that you can be happy, it should be clear to you that you don't want to be in this relationship much longer anyway.

The second area of integrity has to do with your attitude and behavior toward money. Casualness toward money brings casualties in your financial life. You must be dynamics & demanding about your treatment of money, especially other people's money. You must guard your credit rating the same way you would guard your honor. You must pay your bills punctually, or even early. You must keep your promises with regard to your financial commitments.

The third area of integrity has to do with your commitments to others, especially in your business, your work and your sales activities. Always keep your word. Be a man or a woman of honor. If you say that you will do something, do it. If you make a promise, keep it. If you make a commitment, fulfill it. Be known as the kind of person that can be trusted absolutely, no matter what the circumstances.

Your integrity is manifested in your willingness to adhere to the values you hold most dear. Always make commitment & not promises. It's easy to make promises/ commitments and hard to keep them, but if you do, every single act of integrity will make your character a little stronger. And as you improve the quality and strength of your character, every other part of your life will improve as well. (We are what we repeatedly do)

What Causes Tinnitus Chewing Gum Quietess? Get Rid of Tinnitus For Good

To start understanding what causes tinnitus, it helps to know that tinnitus isn't really a disorder in and of itself. Rather, it is a indication of something else amiss that might arise from numerous causes. Often, a number of conditions combined is what brings on the symptoms.

I used this guide and cured my tinnitus chewing gum quietess for good!

Tinnitus Chewing Gum Quietess
Common Tinnitus Causes:

Damage to the inner ear from exposure to really loud sound causes tinnitus more often than any other single factor today.

Sinusitis, due to the interconnection of ear, nose, and throat, frequently causes tinnitus ear noise.

Ear infection, either of the outer ear or middle ear, frequently causes tinnitus.

Stress is another known factor that will cause tinnitus, and even when tinnitus may be due to other underlying conditions, stress can worsen the symptoms.

Depression, which may affect the body much like stress, is commonly blamed when no other factor that causes tinnitus can be identified.

High blood pressure is a recognised cause of tinnitus, and resolving that condition regularly resolves the tinnitus.

Impacted ear wax can block hearing and engender tinnitus. Removing the impaction usually resolves the tinnitus symptoms quickly.

Certain medicines are also among the common tinnitus causes, especially antibiotics and aspirin products.

Because so many factors can make contributions to tinnitus conditions, it can be terribly tricky, or maybe even impossible, to diagnose precisely. Actually many cases of tinnitus are diagnosed as idiopathic, that is, with no recognised cause. Yet, even allowing for this good hope remains. It simply points out why the holistic approach is needed in so many cases to eliminate tinnitus ear ringing.

Other Causes of Tinnitus:

Atherosclerosis, caused by plaque buildup in the arteries, can engender tinnitus due to constricted blood flow in the head and neck regions.

Benign intracranial hypertension, increased pressure within the brain with a lack of a cancer, could also cause tinnitus. It occurs most commonly among young adult and middle-aged ladies.

Ear nerve damage, sometimes due to viral infection, causes tinnitus in a few cases.

Meniere's disease is commonly blamed for causing tinnitus. It is related to a large number of inner ear aberrations, claimed to be caused by an inequality of inner ear liquid pressure.

Glomus growth, a tangling and bunching of veins and tissues in the ear vicinity, can engender tinnitus.

Intracranial vascular lesions, aneurisms or arteriovenous malformations, can bring on tinnitus symptoms, caused by abnormal blood flow.

Acoustic neuroma, a benign growth, could cause tinnitus.

Tinnitus Chewing Gum Quietess

The 2 lists on this page contain some of the main reasons for tinnitus, but are in no fashion exhaustive. Countless other things or fusion of conditions can engender tinnitus. Thanks to the many possible conditions that can make a contribution to tinnitus, a holistic approach aimed toward getting to the root causes, step by step, is the most convenient method for judging the cause for any particular case.

Major Causes Of Tinnitus

Tinnitus is a hearing problem many people suffer from across the world. It is basically the perception of noise when in the absence of acoustic stimulus. The sounds that are usually heard with tinnitus are ringing in the ears, hissing and roaring noises in the ears or whistling.

There are two types of tinnitus; objective and subjective. The objective type is where sounds are also heard by the physician and other people, and is not so common. It is subjective tinnitus that is more common and the condition where the sounds are heard only by the patient, and not by anyone else. It is subjective tinnitus that is most difficult to treat.

There are many causes and reasons that trigger tinnitus. Most of the people suffering from tinnitus have somehow usually damaged the delicate parts of the inner ear. This results in damage to the cochlea and its associated parts. On getting injured with exposure to noise or head trauma, they stimulate their nerve fibers with repetitive discharge. These nerve fibers tend to discharge synchronously in the auditory system so that the audio system cannot discriminate between sounds.

Presbycusis is another condition that triggers tinnitus. Presbycusis is the condition where people experiences hearing loss while aging. It has also been found out that sinusitis and allergy also triggers tinnitus. This type of tinnitus triggered with sinusitis is through blocked Eustachian tubes. This blockage results in pressure buildup in the ear, and is caused by extended use of anti-histamines and antibiotics. This causes thickening of mucous of the inner ear, so that the mucous cannot drain from the Eustachian tubes. Another cause of tinnitus is extended exposure to stress or some traumatic event like the death of a loved one.

Tinnitus has also been associated with thyroid dysfunction. Once the thyroid hormone produces too much thyroid hormone in hyperthyroidism, these additional hormones tend to effect bodily organs. Sometimes the heart beats faster and harder, which causes a pulsatile noise that is heard through tinnitus.

It has also been found out that vitamin A and B12 deficiency leads to tinnitus. Then there are many prescription medicines that we use that list causing tinnitus as one of their side effects. These prescription drugs are generally antidepressants, anti-malarials, antibiotics and antidepressants. Even aspirin and compounds having aspirin, about 600 – 1,000 mm/day can also induce tinnitus. So it is always better to read the literature that comes with a prescription, so that you feel you are developing tinnitus, you could change the medication.

Always get the condition diagnosed and treated by an expert doctor. On finding out the cause of tinnitus, it becomes easier to be dealt with.

Pubic Hair Removal - Tips When Shaving

Never use the old-fashioned switch-blade razor. It is quite unsuitable for pubic hair removal and can be dangerous.

Choose a female razor, obtainable from Wilkinson Sword or other well known razor manufacturers, rather than an ordinary safety razor. The design makes it much more difficult to cut yourself.

Opt for a more expensive good quality razor rather than a cheap throw away which is more likely to cause nicks, soreness and razor burns in this sensitive area.

If the pubic hair is thick and long use small scissors to trim down the hair to about a quarter of an inch. This will avoid blunting and clogging the razor too quickly.

Wet a large, washcloth and lay it over the entire pubic area for two or three minutes.

Alternatively, take a long hot bath or stay in the shower for a while making sure the pubic area receives a lot of water. Pubic hair is coarser than head hair and needs more time to soften when carrying out pubic hair removal.

Apply plenty of shaving foam or gel over the area and leave for a few minutes to soften further. Ordinary soap is not suitable as it does not lock in the moisture to the hair the way a shaving preparation cream or gel does.

Experiment with different brands if you find some cause skin irritation. They contain various chemicals and you need to find one that suits you.

Pull the skin straight with your free hand and shave without applying pressure.

Shave upwards against the direction of the hair growth.

Make sure there is shaving foam on the skin each time you make a stroke with the razor.

Shaving bare skin can cause razor burn and can be especially painful in pubic hair removal.

Rinse the razor every couple of strokes as it will clog easily.

Rinse off and see any areas that may have been missed and again apply gel to that area and shave.

Massage unscented Vitamin E oil into the pubic area after shaving.

To stop or reduce itching after shaving rub an ice cube over the area.

Alternatively, rub a little baby oil into the pubic area.

If you suffer from itchiness or blood spots, let the hair grow back for a week before shaving again.

Keep the shaven area well moisturized between shaves by using a skin moisturizer or baby lotion. This will reduce the uncomfortable effect the stubble may cause between shaves.

Tinnitus: Have You Tried High Power Laser Therapy

tinnitus is a condition for which laser therapy can be effective and yet many are not aware that this option exists. Laser therapy has been shown to reduce inflammation, reduce fibrous tissue formation, improve vascular activity, accelerate tissue repair and cell growth as well as improve nerve function. tinnitus is the perception of ringing in the ears when no ringing is really present. Tinnitus is, therefore, a symptom and not medical condition but can be part of the signs and symptoms associated with various causes. This symptom can, however, be very annoying to the patient and at times very difficult to treat for the physician depending on what the underlying cause of the tinnitus is. There have been no reported negative effects from laser therapy when used by a qualified and experienced practitioner and as you can see from the list above, there are many possible benefits for a patient with a stubborn case of tinnitus. My experience as a pioneer in the use of High Power Laser Therapy in the United States with Tinnitus has been very positive and its effectiveness on an individual basis can be determined fairly easily with a short trial period. The advantage of High Power Laser Therapy over low level lasers is its ability to penetrate deeper and reach the target tissue. Many times low level laser energy is absorbed by the more superficial covering tissues and, therefore, becomes ineffective before reaching the tissue in question. High Power Laser Therapy also delivers more energy to the tissue per unit of time. The purpose of this article is to make those suffering with tinnitus aware that this option is available to them. Below you will find a few journal articles regarding laser therapy and tinnitus.

Effectiveness of combined counseling and low-level laser stimulation in the treatment of disturbing chronic tinnitus.

Cuda D, De Caria A.

Department of Otolaryngology, Guglielmo da Saliceto Hospital, Piacenza, Italy. d.cuda@ausl.pc.it

Abstract

We recruited 46 adult patients affected by disturbing tinnitus lasting for at least 3 years. All were treated with a combined counseling protocol constituting hypnotherapeutic and muscle relaxation techniques. We randomly assigned 26 patients to the group receiving low-level laser stimulation treatment and 20 to the placebo group. The laser power was 5 mV and the wavelength 650 nm. The irradiation lasted 20 minutes daily for 3 months. The Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) questionnaire was submitted at the beginning and at the end of treatment. The THI scores improved in the entire sample after treatment but more significantly in the group receiving low-level laser stimulation. From the point of view of clinical classification, approximately 61% of irradiated patients had tinnitus severity decreased by one class, in comparison to 35% of the placebo group.

Effectiveness of transmeatal low power laser irradiation for chronic tinnitus.

Gungor A, Dogru S, Cincik H, Erkul E, Poyrazoglu E.

Department of Otolaryngology, Haydarpasa Military Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate effectiveness of 5 mW laser irradiation in the treatment of chronic tinnitus. STUDY DESIGN: Prospective, randomised, double-blind study. Methods:This investigation included 66 ears in 45 patients with chronic unilateral or bilateral tinnitus. A 5 mW laser with a wavelength of 650 nm, or placebo laser, was applied transmeatally for 15 minutes, once daily for a week. A questionnaire was administered which asked patients to score their symptoms on a five-point scale, before and two weeks after laser irradiation. A decrease of one scale point, regarding the loudness, duration and degree of annoyance of tinnitus, was accepted to represent an improvement. RESULTS: The loudness, duration and degree of annoyance of tinnitus were improved, respectively, in up to 48.8, 57.7 and 55.5 per cent of the patients in the active laser group. No significant improvement was observed in the placebo laser group. CONCLUSION: Transmeatal, low power (5 mW) laser irradiation was found to be useful for the treatment of chronic tinnitus.

Transmeatal cochlear laser (TCL) treatment of cochlear dysfunction: a feasibility study for chronic tinnitus.

Tauber S, Schorn K, Beyer W, Baumgartner R.

Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich, D-81377 Munich, FRG. drtauber@yahoo.de

Abstract

Low-level-laser-therapy (LLLT) targeting the inner ear has been discussed as a therapeutic procedure for cochlear dysfunction such as chronic cochlear tinnitus or sensorineural hearing loss. Former studies demonstrate dose-dependent biological and physiological effects of LLLT such as enhanced recovery of peripheral nerve injuries, which could be of therapeutic interest in cochlear dysfunction. To date, in patients with chronic tinnitus mastoidal and transmeatal irradiation has been performed without systematic dosimetric assessment. However, light-dosimetric studies on human temporal bones demonstrated that controlled application of laserlight to the human cochlea depends on defined radiator position within the external auditory meatus. This feasibility study first presents a laser application system enabling dose-controlled transmeatal cochlear laser-irradiation (TCL), as well as preliminary clinical results in patients with chronic cochlear tinnitus. The novel laser TCL-system, consisting of four diode lasers (lambda=635 nm-830 nm) and a new specific head-set applicator, was developed on the basis of dosimetric data from a former light-dosimetric study. In a preliminary clinical study, the TCL-system was applied to 35 patients with chronic tinnitus and sensorineural hearing loss. The chronic symptoms persisted after standard therapeutic procedures for at least six months, while retrocochlear or middle-ear pathologies have been ruled out. The patients were randomised and received five single diode laser treatments (lambda=635 nm, 7.8 mW cw, n=17 and lambda=830 nm, 20 mW cw, n=18) with a space irradiation of 4 J/cm2 site of maximal cochlear injury. For evaluation of laser-induced effects complete otolaryngologic examinations with audiometry, tinnitus masking and matching, and a tinnitus-self-assessment were performed before, during and after the laser-irradiation. The first clinical use of the TCL-system has been well tolerated without side-effects and produced no observable damage to the external, middle or inner ear. Changes of tinnitus loudness and tinnitus matching have been described. After a follow-up period of six months tinnitus loudness was attenuated in 13 of 35 irradiated patients, while two of 35 patients reported their tinnitus as totally absent. Hearing threshold levels and middle ear function remained unchanged. Further investigations by large double-blind placebo-controlled studies are mandatory for clinical evaluation of the presented TCL-system and its therapeutic effectiveness in acute and chronic cochlear dysfunction.

Pulsatile Tinnitus - A Rythmic Tinnitus With A Potentially Ominous Source

tinnitus is actually not disease. It is just a symptom of some other disorder in your system. tinnitus is often described as ringing sound in one or both of your ears. However, it can occur in other forms of sound as well, such as buzzing, whooshing, or hissing. Whatever type of sound tinnitus sufferer hear, there is no external source for that noise. The noise is produced within his or her body and usually the sufferer is the only person who can hear it.

It is very common that tinnitus is caused by some inner ear disorder. Some common causes of that disorder include exposure to loud noises, head injuries, and ear infections. Sometimes the causes of tinnitus can be a little bit more serious as well.

Pulsatile tinnitus is a specific form of tinnitus, in which the perceived auditory symptom seems to occur in rhythm with the sufferer's heartbeat. Often the sound pulsates for an ongoing span of time, giving it its characteristic name, while the noise itself can have a thumping or whooshing quality.

Pulsatile tinnitus is often called as vascular tinnitus. Usually, this type of tinnitus appears in just one ear. It has been reported that only one out of twenty tinnitus patients has vascular tinnitus.

Vascular tinnitus, unlike other varieties, is not often inner-ear specific. A Eustachian tube blockage, or ear infection, can be the culprit, as with other varieties of tinnitus.

Vascular tinnitus is usually caused by increased blood circulation near the patients ear. The flow is so extreme that the sufferer can hear the blood passing his or her ear.

Tumultuous blood flow can occur during the relatively benign event of arduous exercise. It can be caused by anemia, particularly in pregnancy. It can occur with hyperthyroidism.

Nevertheless, often the cause of this type of tinnitus is the contraction of blood vessels causing constriction in blood flow. In those cases, the pulsating and whooshing noise the patient hear is due to variation in blood flow.

Physical conditions or diseases that may lead to blood vessel constriction, in turn leading to pulsatile tinnitus, include hypertension and arteriosclerosis. These two often go hand in hand, lethally causing constriction of the arterial walls. Other conditions include heart murmurs and certain kinds of tumors.

While there is some varying degree of risk associated with the tinnitus causes related to vascular tinnitus, there is the very real risk of stroke associated with constriction in the cranial or neck vessels extreme enough to lead to the characteristic auditory symptoms of vascular tinnitus. For this reason medical advice and subsequent testing is always advisable for subjects experiencing tinnitus with the qualities inherent to pulsatile tinnitus.

A Periwinkle Extract Vinpocetine May Promote Cerebral Blood Flow

Periwinkles form the plant genus Vinca, of which the lesser periwinkle and the greater periwinkle are the two members. They are also a form of dogbane, known for its alkaloid properties. Periwinkles are of interest to the medical profession due to their biosynthesis of a number of alkaloids that are used to protect themselves from bacteria and are also toxic to the herbivores that would otherwise eat them.

Many other plants produce alkaloids, perhaps the best known being poppy, that produces the alkaloid opium that is the precursor to heroin. The alkaloids of the periwinkle, however, have a much more beneficial use for mankind in their action on certain types of cancer such as Hodgkin’s disease, and also on the flow of blood to the brain.

The components of the periwinkle include vinblastine, which is used in the treatment of Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and it is the only plant known to produce the alkaloid, although only in very small quantities after synthetic seeding. This involves introducing modified tryptamines to the plant so that they produce the desired alkaloid, although only in quantities of 0.002% of the weight of the plant. Although small, this is still less expensive that synthesizing the alkaloid in a chemical plant rather than a biological one!

Chemists are now seeking more readily synthesizable alternative forms of the alkaloid that have the same effect, again using the periwinkle as a botanical chemical factory to provide them with a lead as to possible synthetic routes. However, it is for the application of another alkaloid of this amazing little plant that we are more concerned with here.

In addition to vinblastine, the periwinkle produces the alkaloid vincamine, a type of tryptamine that can be extracted from the leaves of the lesser periwinkle, the Vinca minor. This periwinkle has been used through the ages as an invigorating tonic and as an astringent to treat bleeding gums and sores in the mouth. Vincamine promotes the aerobic glycolysis that is essential to cerebral health.

Normal glycolysis, or the conversion of glucose to energy in the mitochondria of the cells of the body, occurs best in the absence of oxygen (anaerobic glycolysis). However, the brain produces up to and over 90% more energy through aerobic glycolysis in the presence of oxygen than through anaerobic. Hence one of the needs for such a rich supply of oxygenated blood being needed by the brain. As people grow older, or their brain tissue becomes damaged, then the supply of blood can be reduced and more and more anaerobic glycolysis is switched on. This results in an increasing loss of brain energy and hence brain function. Vincamine can reverse this effect, or at least maintain the status quo, and so enable people to maintain their brain function for longer.

It is also what is known as a vasodilator, and dilates the blood vessels in the brain allowing a greater blood flow. It is known to be beneficial in relation to tasks requiring focused concentration such as mathematical problem solving, and has also been found effective in the treatment of people with poor memory.

Vinpocetine (ethyl apovincaminate) is a derivative of vincamine, obtained by slightly modifying the molecule to produce a commercial form of the alkaloid. This possesses all of the beneficial effects of its precursor, including its positive effects on memory, believed to be due to the stimulation of serotonin production that improves the rate at which the brain can process information. tinnitus, or ringing in the ears that has severely reduced the quality of life of so many people, can also be treated with vinpotecine.

Its vascodilation effect is thought to be through its action as a phosphodeaterase 1 (PDE1) inhibitor that results in an improvement in the plasticity of neurons. The mechanism is complex, but the end result is an improvement in the cognitive abilities of the subject. This is supplemented by the effect of vinpocetine on the calcium levels in the blood vessels. This renders them more plastic in much the same way that some anti-hypertension treatments work to reduce blood pressure by increasing the plasticity of the blood vessels by modification of their calcium levels. It can also reduce the viscosity of the blood through its action on the “stickiness” of leucocytes and so allow the blood to run more freely through the capillaries of the brain.

These effects have been demonstrated through double blind studies, and there is little doubt that vinpocetine helps to maintain a healthy cerebral circulation. So let’s have a recap on its various effects, and then finish with a summary of the conditions that the alkaloid can be used to treat or improve. The theory and biochemistry behind these effects is known, but is complex, but here are the major actions:

a) It improves blood flow by modifying the calcium content of the blood vessels and so improves their elasticity, hence allowing a freer movement of blood. In effect it helps the blood vessels to dilate easier.

b) It inhibits the enzyme PDE1 and by doing so helps to restore the elasticity of neurons in aging brain cells, allowing them to relax more and operate more effectively.

c) It promotes aerobic glycolysis, and so the rate at which the mitochondria of brain cells produce ATP (adenosine triphosphate) that is the chemical manifestation of energy.

d) It helps to maintain a good supply of glucose and oxygen in the brain to allow (c) to occur.

Not all of these may be separate effects, but the outcome is an improvement in conditions such as short term memory loss, dementia and other conditions associated with a reduction in the blood supply to the brain including Menière’s syndrome and vertigo. There is also evidence that it helps with hearing problems, macular degeneration of the eye, and fatigue.

It is a supplement that should be taken by the elderly to help with age-related memory problems, but has also been found to be beneficial in normal healthy people. The periwinkle extract Vinpocetine has been shown to have benefits, largely through an increase in the blood flow to the brain, and will be of use to anybody suffering from conditions that can be related to a deficiency in their cerebral blood supply.

The Practices of Tantra

In an effort to experience more joy, freedom, love and growth, we often look outside of ourselves, rather than focusing inward. We seek more possessions, a beautiful home, jewelry, shoes, and clothes, often in excess. We resort to food, build up our bodies, take drugs or alcohol. We use religion as a crutch, rather than accepting the fact that Divinity is within all of us.

Tantra is a spiritual path for integrating body, mind and spirit for experiencing our inner joy. Tantra gives us the tools to be totally free from negativity impressed upon us at an early age by family, church, friends and peers. Through tantra we learn to open our hearts to the unconditional love of the Self as well as others. We experience growth and continual expansion.

Tantra means liberation through expansion. By expanding our awareness we learn to distinguish our limited ego nature from our higher nature. As we begin to realize our own divinity, we can see the divine in our beloved, in all people, in all of life. It differs from other paths in its acceptance and use of all the senses, including sexuality and feelings, to help us evolve spiritually. Tantra encourages us to enjoy more fully the world in which we live, as a way to access other worlds.

By practicing tantra we can learn to amplify and transmute sexual energy through breathing techniques, exercises and dance. Instead of being at the effect of this powerful force, we use it consciously to actualize our spiritual potential. We learn to release inhibitions and blocks that prevent us from experiencing our true joyful nature. We come to realize that the physical body is a vehicle for the soul to celebrate and experience joy and ecstasy. We become profound and playful. God learns to play at being human.

We learn true intimacy with our partner by consciously moving and sharing cosmic energies. Tantra can be practiced without a partner as well. As we await our beloved, we work at honoring and balancing our inner male and female. When we combine our analytical, linear, verbal, abstract side synergistically with our intuitive, holistic, sensual, practical side, we find the essence of creative genius.

Tantra teaches us to transcend the limitations of the mind by distinguishing our limited ego nature from our higher self. The ego/mind believes that having its desires fulfilled brings happiness. The omniscient mind lives continually in bliss. As we discover our truths, desires are released, and we come to identify more and more with this bliss body. Rather than living through the mind and the mind's habit of placing everything in a familiar setting, we learn to trust our intuition about the unexpected and the unknown. We learn to do this by becoming inner-directed, taking responsibility for our lives and learning to live in the present moment.

The many practices of tantra, which include breathing, meditation, movement, dance and sound rejuvenate the body, recycle sexual energy, transforming it for increased vitality and self-healing.

Tantric sex is meditative, spontaneous and intimate lovemaking. Through it you learn to prolong the act of making love and to channel, rather than dissipate potent orgasmic energies moving through you, thereby raising the level of your consciousness. Tantra transports your sexuality from the plane of doing to the place of being. There is no goal in Tantric sex, only the present moment of perfect and harmonious union. Tantra teaches you to revere your sexual partner and to transform the act of sex into a sacrament of love.

Tantra teaches that lovemaking between a man and woman, when entered into with Awareness, is a gateway to both sexual and spiritual ecstasy. It is necessary to purify and master your body and mind. With practice you will awaken the powerful psychic energies through which you can enter into higher states of Consciousness.

Through the sacred act of love, you can merge the dual nature of your sexuality into an ecstatic union. Through this will come the harmonization of your own internal masculine and feminine polarities and a realization of the blissful nature of your Self.

Tinnitus Solution - Natural Tinnitus Treatments

Are you tired of listening to that ringing in your ears day in and day out? If you have been to numerous doctors and specialists only to be told that nothing can be done, perhaps it's time to find your own solution.

There are many natural tinnitus treatments that can help tinnitus sufferers. A little bit of research will show you that others have overcome their tinnitus and there is a good chance that you can too. You'll feel great relief when your tinnitus subsides and you can enjoy a peaceful nights sleep again.

During the last 20 years or so, many researchers have applied themselves to discovering tinnitus solutions. One of the first discoveries was 'masking', where an external noise like a fountain was used to drown out the tinnitus. This was found to provide temporary relief. While drug therapy has not provided any real answers to tinnitus, this external sound stimulation showed promise.

Since then we have learned a lot more about tinnitus and the brain, enabling much more effective solutions to be found. Tinnitus begins when the ear is damaged by an injury, infection or too much noise exposure. One theory is that when damage prevents us from hearing sounds correctly, our brain produces a substitute sound, which is tinnitus.

The way the brain creates the sound is through the firing of neurons. Any sound, or any sense we perceive, begins with the sense organ (eyes, ears etc) and ends with neurons firing in the brain. With tinnitus, the neurons are firing on their own, even though no sound has been received by the ear. So to stop the tinnitus we have to stop the neurons spontaneously firing.

There are ways of helping the auditory parts of the brain to calm down, which can help stop this unwanted neuronal firing. Here are a few ideas you can try.

• Stay away from noisy environments, if you find they trigger your tinnitus

• If you have to go to noisy places wear good-quality earplugs or earmuffs

• Try reducing your intake of caffeine or alcohol

• Find out if any medicine you are taking may trigger tinnitus

• Keep your ears and neck warm to avoid getting winter colds

• Practice deep breathing while listening to calming music

• Increase your intake of antioxidants

• Drink 8 to 10 glasses of filtered water every day to help detox your system

• Use Sound Therapy to help you build healthier auditory pathways in your brain

When you take on board some of these self-healing techniques, you will feel empowered to heal yourself instead of feeling powerless over your tinnitus. Let yourself be confident, because the body has an amazing ability to heal. There is lots of information available now to help you heal your tinnitus. Download your Tinnitus ebook @

Relief For Ear Ringing Tinnitus

Ten to twelve percent of the population has to deal with tinnitus. Over the years scientist and doctors have not been able to come up with a cure. When you have tinnitus you will have to suffer, since going to doctors cannot cure you. This is why people with ear ringing search for a natural tinnitus treatment.

A cure has not been found since tinnitus is not a priority in the scientific world. Most of the information known about tinnitus has been known for a long time. It has been in the past hundreds of years that alternative medicine has provide some tinnitus treatment and this treatment is as good as available from doctors.

One cause of tinnitus is hearing loud sound for a long periods in your life. When you hear loud sounds for a long time, your ears becomes insensitive to sound and eventually you lose your hearing. When this happens, you are more susceptible to developing tinnitus.

A general rule of thumb is that prolong exposure to sound in excess of 90 decibels will damage your ears, which eventually leads to tinnitus. Shouting loudly is around 80 decibels and a jet plane at full thrust during take off is over 120 decibels. Sounds over 130 decibels will be painful to your ears and will probably cause ear damage.

One cause of ear ringing is excess exposure to loud sounds over a long period of time. This excess exposure can be related to heavy traffic noise, construction work noise, or any other noise related to your job. High pitch sounds are more damaging than low frequency sounds. Damaging the ear structure will make it more difficult for a tinnitus treatment to work.

Various drugs have been used to as a tinnitus treatment. However, none have been proven to provide a cure for ear ringing. Since the cause of ringing can be different for each person, some drugs maybe helpful. Drugs have side effects and you can become dependent on them after long term use.

Ringing in the ear is also caused by long periods of stress, grief or shock. Stress has a severe affect on the release of hormones that control your body. When your body is out of hormonal balance, this can create illness, including tinnitus. A natural tinnitus treatment can bring your body back into balance.

So what might be the cause of tinnitus? Most diseases are caused by our thinking. Our thinking and behavior is created by our childhood experiences. If we experience childhood trauma of any kind, this is translated into physical conditions and mental health. This trauma can create weaknesses in the body and some times in the ears. Early trauma creates stress and anxiety and in more severe cases mental illness, where an individual hears voice rather than ringing in his ears. In these cases a tinnitus treatment may involve drugs.

Most illness and unwanted body conditions are caused by diet, lack of proper nutrition, and trauma. When ear ringing occurs, the ear malfunction can be improved by a tinnitus treatment using herbal drops such as Bio-Ear or a nutrient drop such as MSN. Bio-Ear nourishes ear nerve endings that have become insensitive and promotes blood flow to the ear. MSN drops keep the ear drum flexible and prevent surrounding tissue from hardening. Not all tinnitus sufferers will responds to these drops.

A natural tinnitus treatment is the best course to follow. This involves using a strict diet and supplementation with specific nutrients. Tinnitus results from long exposure to loud noises, which creates hearing loss. Long term stress or an abrupt shock such as a car accident or traumatic experience can cause tinnitus.
